The 133,000-acres of county forestland offer outdoor recreation throughout the year. Hunters and nature enthusiasts alike will enjoy the abundant wildlife found throughout the county. Deer, turkey, black bear, ducks, geese, grouse and more have made this area their home for hundreds of years. You may even stumble across one of the many endangered or threatened species found here, such as the peregrine falcon, barn owl, red-shouldered hawk, bald eagle or karner blue butterfly.

While offering 4-seasons of fun, Clark County is particularly known for its winter activities. With more than 350 miles of signed and well-groomed snowmobile trails and 150 miles of ATV trails that wind and loop throughout the county forest land, you're sure to enjoy your time riding and exploring the trails. Those who enjoy the quieter winter sports can find downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing at one of Wisconsin's premier ski areas, Bruce Mound Winter Sports Area. Slopes are lighted for evening adventures and state of the art snowmaking assures plenty of snow throughout the season. You'll also find a relaxing, yet invigorating day of cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing available at Levis/Trow Mound Recreational Area. Here you can enjoy 34 miles of trails that journey through a portion of the county forest and feature a beautiful sandstone bluff along the way. During the summer months you can hike and mountain bike along these same trails.

For summer water fun, you can't go wrong with Mead Lake and Rock Dam Lake. Mead Lake is the second largest lake in Clark County. It provides a very diverse fishing opportunity, offering musky, large and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappies and perch. The lake has a nice beach and park area for the whole family to enjoy swimming, tubing and more. Like Mead Lake, Rock Dam Lake offers substantial opportunity for water-based recreation. Enjoy your day canoeing or boating, fishing or swimming. Whatever your pleasure, either lake will fit the bill.

Another great option for water fun is the Eau Claire River. The Eau Claire offers roughly 20 miles of canoeing and kayaking along its winding flow. The river features several scenic rapids and bluffs and has some nice fishing opportunities for everything from smallmouth bass to musky. You'll likely see a deer along the shoreline or an eagle soaring overhead as you make your way along the wooded landscape that makes the Eau Claire River a special waterway.
